Helen,
A 2024 survey of 2,002 women found that only 39% held investments.
The most common reason women gave for not investing was feeling that they did not have enough money. Another 29% feared losing money, while 25% did not know where to begin.
Something else stood out.
Ten percent of the women who said they were not investing had a 401(k) or IRA. They were already investors, yet they did not see themselves that way.
Investing can feel unfamiliar when we have had little exposure to it or were never taught how it works.
The language may feel unfamiliar. We may wonder whether we have enough money to begin, whom to trust, or whether one wrong decision could cost us what we worked so hard to create.
Past experiences can also shape how we respond. Perhaps we lost money, watched someone else lose everything, or grew up hearing that investing was too complicated or risky.
Fear, confusion, and self-doubt can then become connected to investing. We may keep researching, postpone making a decision, or leave our financial future in someone else’s hands.
During Rewire Your Financial Worry, we will explore what may be happening in our nervous system when we think about investing and other financial actions we want to take.
My intention is to create a sacred, safe space where we can have honest conversations about our financial worries with care and without judgment.
Bring your financial worries.
