Helen Happy July 1st!
Have you ever held back from saying what you really think because you didn’t want to be seen as “too much”? Undercharged or overworked yourself just to keep the peace? Softened your truth to avoid disappointing someone — especially someone in authority?
If so, you’re not alone. And you’re not broken.
What many of us think is a personal struggle with visibility or confidence is often something much deeper: a survival-based strategy rooted in generations of cultural conditioning.
For centuries, women were taught to seek approval as a way to stay safe. To be liked was to be loved. To be palatable was to be protected.
This is what my mentor Dr. Claire Zammit calls The Approval Addiction.
And while we’ve evolved in so many ways, this legacy still lives in our nervous systems — especially when it comes to money.
What does this look like in real life?
-
Undercharging to avoid seeming “greedy”
-
Modifying your message to be more agreeable
-
Avoiding conflict (even internal conflict) when making big decisions
-
Feeling shaken or derailed by criticism or disapproval
-
Confusing being liked with being respected or loved
What we don’t often talk about is how this shows up in our financial lives:
👉 Saying yes to unpaid labor 👉 Discounting our services to stay accessible 👉 Waiting for external validation before launching or raising prices 👉 Avoiding visibility because “what will they think?”
That’s not just emotional labor. That’s financial labor that goes unseen and unrewarded.
Here's the truth:
Approval is not the same as value. Palatability is not the same as power. Being liked is not the same as being wealthy.
Your worth is not defined by other people’s comfort. And your voice is not too much. It’s the medicine that money responds to.
The Shift Begins Here:
Start by anchoring into this:
“My truth is a gift. I am here to express myself authentically and powerfully, and I do not require everyone’s approval to be safe, valued, or loved.”
From this place, you begin to:
✔ Stay grounded in your values ✔ Speak your truth even when it disrupts old dynamics ✔ Set boundaries that align with your worth ✔ Build wealth without needing to be universally liked
Reflection Prompt: Where have you been trading your truth for approval — and what has it cost you?
This is the work. Not just mindset work — but nervous system reclamation. Legacy interruption. Power restoration.
And you don’t have to do it alone.
I’ll be speaking more about this in our upcoming sessions. Until then, keep anchoring into the deeper truth:
You don’t need to be liked to be powerful. You only need to be aligned with your truth.
With clarity, Dr. Helen Orombi
