Hi SisterQueen Helen
Did you know that the day before Valentines day, is International day of Self-Love? So today Id like to focus on self-care as self-love.
Self-care is an area that was modeled for me by my dad growing up. As a busy pastor he would take every Mondays off to recharge. And on a daily basis he would wake up at 5am and spend his “quiet” time connecting to self and the Divine.
Now as an adult, I take one day a week to recharge and I wake up around 4-5am daily to do my practices that support me such as: tapping, meditation, journaling, reading, listening to a podcast. When I have time I do them all when I don't then I do just two or three.
What does self-care look like for you?
Defining Self-Care:
Self-care means intentionally nurturing your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. It involves recognizing your needs and taking proactive steps to replenish yourself. I know a lot of women struggle to prioritize because of all the things that are competing for out attention. So I want you to know self-care is not indulgent or selfish; rather, it is a fundamental aspect of maintaining balance and resilience in your life.
What stories do you tell yourself about prioritizing self-care?
Tips and Strategies for Self-Care:
- Prioritize Yourself: Schedule regular self-care time and treat it as non-negotiable.
- Set Boundaries: Learn to say no to activities that drain you or compromise your well-being.
- Practice Mindfulness: Engage in activities like meditation or deep breathing to reduce stress and foster calm.
- Do What You Love: Make time for activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.
- Take Care of Your Body: Prioritize sleep, eat well, and exercise regularly.
- Be Kind to Yourself: Replace self-criticism with self-compassion during tough times.
- Seek Support: Reach out to friends, family, or professionals when needed.
- Unplug and Recharge: Take breaks from technology to reconnect with yourself.
- Practice Gratitude: Reflect on what you're thankful for to boost positivity.
- Trust Yourself: Listen to your intuition and honor your needs with compassion.
Remember, self-care is about finding what works best for you and making it a priority in your life.
Why prioritize self-care?
I think one of my favorite quotes by Cherly Richardson, author of the art of extreme self-care ( Must read book) summarizes it best.
The acceptable thing for me to say is, honey, if you take better care of yourself, then that means you’ll be a better person to be around. While that’s true, what I really want to say as I’ve gotten older is, honey, if you take better care of yourself, the negative self-talk is going to stop. Honey, if you take better care of yourself, you’re going to feel stronger in your body. Honey, if you take better care of yourself, you’re going to care more about what you think and less about what other people think. And then you’re going to be more powerful in the world. You’re going to effect change in your life and in the lives of the people around you. You’re going to have a huge impact on the planet because one of the ways that women sit on their power is by not taking care of their bodies.
Now if you have any resistance to prioritizing self-care here is a tapping video that will help you clear your resistance to prioritizing self-care.
