Helen,

It is Labor Day, and I have been thinking about what happens when financial stress affects our ability to work.

Earlier this year, I decided to make a change in my business.

Most of my work had always been one-on-one and group coaching. I love that work, and I could only support so many women with the time and capacity I had available.

I wanted to create another stream of income through courses.

Around the same time, two of my legacy clients completed their work with me. The reliable income I had received from those clients was gone while I was still figuring out this new direction.

Less money was coming in than I needed to cover my expenses.

And I became financially overwhelmed.

I knew I needed to work on my courses, promote my work, and create new income. Knowing what I needed to do did not mean I could automatically do it.

When I feel highly stressed, I distract myself. I procrastinate. Sometimes I become so overwhelmed that I feel paralyzed and struggle to do the very things that could help me change the situation.

Financial stress can interfere with your ability to access the clarity, creativity, and resourcefulness you need to respond to your finances.

You may know that you need to promote your business, follow up with a potential client, look at your expenses, or make a financial decision.

If you work in a nine-to-five, you may know that you need to ask for a raise, apply for another position, review your benefits, or have a financial conversation.

Yet your body may be responding as if the entire situation is too much.

For me, tapping helped calm my nervous system enough to think more clearly and continue taking action. It did not make my expenses disappear. It helped me regain access to the part of me that could respond to what was happening.

So, what about you, Helen?

What is creating the most financial stress for you right now?

And what happens when you feel overwhelmed by it?

Do you distract yourself? Avoid looking at your finances? Work harder? Procrastinate? Become frozen and struggle to decide what to do next?
