Helen
Last week, I told you about Scarcity Sarah’s latest financial freak-out.
Today, I want to continue that conversation by asking you a question:
Who’s driving your financial bus?
When I become activated around money, Scarcity Sarah will often grab the steering wheel.
She believes there will never be enough money. Once she becomes frightened, she grips that steering wheel with both hands and carries me months into the future.
She also has sisters.
There is Not Good Enough Nora.
She is the part of me who believes I do not know enough and I am not capable enough. Whenever I think about putting myself out there, she can give me a million and one reasons why I should wait.
Maybe I need to learn more.
Maybe I am not confident enough yet.
Maybe someone else could do it better.
Not Good Enough Nora is trying to protect my worth. She wants to save me from criticism, disappointment, failure, and the possibility that putting myself out there will confirm the very thing she fears.
Then there is Fearful Fiona.
Fearful Fiona is the part of me who is afraid. When something feels uncertain, she sounds the alarm. Money can activate her. So can relationships, visibility, and success.
And there is Powerless Pam.
Powerless Pam struggles to believe that I have the power to influence my financial life. When she takes the wheel, I can forget my creativity, my experience, and the resources available to me. I can look at my current financial circumstances and feel as though they have already decided my future.
You may have your own versions of these parts.
Perhaps yours is Worried Winnie, who tries to solve your entire financial future at three o’clock in the morning.
Maybe you have a part who avoids opening the bills, compulsively checks the bank account, refuses to look at the bank account, or keeps creating new offers because promoting the current one feels too vulnerable.
These parts are trying to protect us.
The difficulty comes when one frightened part starts driving the entire financial bus.
That is why I have learned to pause and ask:
Who is driving right now?
Is it Scarcity Sarah?
Has Not Good Enough Nora taken the wheel?
Is Fearful Fiona responding to uncertainty as though it is immediate danger?
Has Powerless Pam forgotten what I am capable of creating?
Or is the Wealth-Creating Woman within me driving?
We all have access to this resourced version of ourselves.
When she is driving, we can think clearly. We have access to our creativity. We can become curious about what might be possible and consider our next step.
She does not need to know every answer. She trusts her ability to learn, ask for help, make decisions, and respond as new information becomes available.
She can look at the money in the bank account without asking that number to predict the rest of her life.
So how do we shift from a frightened part to the Wealth-Creating Woman within us?
The first step is creating enough safety in our bodies.
When Scarcity Sarah is white-knuckling the steering wheel, she will rarely release it because we tell her to calm down. Her body believes she is protecting us from danger.
She needs to feel that someone is listening.
She needs to know that the resourced adult in the system understands why she is frightened and is willing to respond.
One of my favorite ways to create that safety is EFT tapping.
Tapping helps calm the activation in our bodies. We can listen to what our frightened part believes will happen and respond to the feelings underneath her worry.
As our systems settle, the Wealth-Creating Woman within us comes back online. We can see more clearly, consider our choices, and decide what the situation needs.
Scarcity Sarah still has a place on the bus. She can become a consultant who encourages us to pay attention to our finances.
Fearful Fiona can help us assess risk without finding danger around every corner.
Not Good Enough Nora can help us recognize where we want to learn or prepare while remembering the knowledge and experience we already possess.
Powerless Pam can remind us to pause long enough to reconnect with our capacity and the support available to us.
They can all have a seat.
The Wealth-Creating Woman within us needs to drive.

You may recognize one of my parts. You may have a completely different character who takes the wheel when money activates your human system.
I created an Internal Financial System Assessment to help you identify the financial pattern that may be driving your bus.
Your result may be:
-
The Achievement-Driven Earner
-
The Scarcity Sentinel
-
The Worth-Conflicted Giver
-
The Emotional Firefighter
-
The Avoidant Optimist
-
The Meaning-Seeker
Each character has her own way of trying to create financial safety.
She may work harder, remain alert for financial danger, give too much, soothe difficult emotions through spending or another behavior, avoid looking at her finances, or search for a deeper sense of purpose through money.
Your assessment result will help you recognize the character who tends to take the wheel, what she is trying to protect you from, and how her pattern influences your financial choices.
Take the Internal Financial System Assessment and discover who may be driving your financial bus.

I am also finishing the details for my new 90-minute live workshop, Rewire Your Money Worries.
The assessment helps you identify the financial character who may be driving your bus. During the workshop, I will help you understand what happens in your mind and body when that character becomes activated.
We will use tapping to help your system experience enough safety for your calm and confident self to come back online.
You will begin learning how to respond to financial stress from the part of you who can think clearly, recognize possibilities, and choose what to do next.
I will share the full workshop details soon.
